I would like to interrupt the all things Favre conversation with a
sociological observation about the mess. From stereotype, it is the
females in our society who are said to be preoccupied with gossip and
overly emotional. An alien watching Favrarama would likely say the same
things about our menfolk. (The alien would likely also be upset about
Favre's situation, as they wouldn't be able to avoid the hype and may
be Packer fans because of the green jersey thing).
What is going on is not just a business transaction between the
Packers and Favre. The media isn't just reporting the news. The fans
aren't just discussing the pros and cons to Something About Brett.
People, both men and women, are completely freaking out.
Peter King who clearly has an unhealthy fascination with Favre, can't even write a non-Favre column when he promised he would.
I've found that the most gossipy environments I've ever been
involved with have been in the traditionally male pursuits of sports
and politics. We should just acknowledge that gossip and emotion are
just part of the human condition for both sexes. Not particularly a
newsflash, but just going a little meta on the Favre thing because you
know, you haven't heard nearly enough about the man.
